It was obvious right from the start that Emma Jacobs (Caitlin Carver) was trouble when she was first introduced in season 10, and it was confirmed when she attempted to blackmail Violet (Hanako Greensmith) and take her job. Among Chicago Fire’s antagonists, she is one of the most notorious.
Her comeback has us confused. It appeared that she had changed her ways when she pardoned Jake Lockett after he got into a quarrel with someone else. However, a brief, testy exchange with Violet quickly showed us what we thought all along– she still desires retribution.
Violet was understandably upset that Jacobs was still employed by the fire department, and was even doing better in her career than Violet had when she worked at the 51. Taking into consideration how Jacobs had treated Jimmy Nicholas (Hawkins) in the past, it is safe to say that Violet will never fully forgive her.
Unfortunately, her disrespect has caused her to become a target of Jacobs. In the episode “Something for the Pain”, Violet attempted to take her grievances to Jacobs’ superiors, but it was quickly made clear that she had no proof to back up her case. Her complaint was dismissed without hesitation, and Jacobs warned her to be careful.
Violet was deeply frightened by this frightening caution, and she revealed to Brett (Kara Killmer) that she would always have to stay vigilant for the remainder of her professional life.
It can be expected that Jacobs will be consistently featured during the 11th season, usually not taking center stage but always appearing, teasing Violet with the opportunity of retribution. Showrunner Derek Haas did not mince his words when he spoke to NBC Insider about what can be expected.
He jokingly remarked that Violet made a huge mistake by provoking a bear that now has even sharper teeth and claws than before. He predicted that the Firehouse 51 is going to witness a terrible mauling.
