Everyone was eagerly waiting for the Chicago Fire winter premiere. In the preceding episode, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) attempted to defuse a bomb, only for it to explode and bring the building down.
Severide (Taylor Kinney), Herrmann (David Eigenberg), and the rest of us watching had to stand by, wondering if either of the firefighters would survive the debris. Will Kidd die? Was she severely hurt in the latest episode? Read ahead for spoilers of “Something for the Pain”!
Will Stella Kidd Make it Out Alive?
The episode begins with a review, followed by a scene of the blast’s aftermath. Severide races into the ruined structure and discovers Kidd collapses in a corner. He shouts her name yet gets no reaction, making him increasingly frantic.
After verifying Kidd’s vitals are alright, Severide notices she has been injured by shrapnel in her abdomen, leaving her bleeding through her firefighter uniform. Brett (Kara Killmer) and Violet (Hanako Greensmith) then quickly take her away on a stretcher, assuring her that she will be okay.
The beginning of the Chicago Fire was quite dismal this year. We find out that Kidd will have an operation to remove shrapnel and that she should fully recover without any internal damage.
We hear from Kidd when she wakes up from her surgery, and she is in pain but awake, inquiring about her medication. When Severide tells Kidd he has been with her in the hospital room all day, it is a touching moment between the two.
It is said that Kidd will be out of action for a couple of weeks, but Miranda Rae Mayo will still be in the episodes. A time jump has taken place so that the protagonist will remain the focus of the show’s upcoming plotlines.
